Hello RJ Hawkey Families and Community.

It is hard to believe that we are almost at the end out of the summer holidays and the start of a new school year.

I want to introduce myself. I am Jackie Root, the new principal at RJ Hawkey School. I have been an educator for 22 years, taught grades two to eight, been a learning support teacher, and was an assistant principal for eight years. I have been with Rocky View Schools since 2009 in Cochrane. I worked at Mitford/Cochrane Christian School as a teacher, learning support teacher and assistant principal. I then had the privilege of opening Fireside School as the assistant principal.

I have a huge heart and passion for literacy and making school a safe and engaging place for staff, students, and families. I am so excited to be the new principal at RJ Hawkey, and I look forward to getting to know you and the community this year!

Below you will find some basic information regarding our school start up. Another update will be shared with families next week.

School Office Hours

The school office will open on Tuesday, August 31st. Office hours are 8 am – 2 pm Tuesday, August 31st - Friday, September 3rd.

COVID Update

There have been a few inquiries about what precautions or routines will be in place this year for RVS. As indicated by Superintendent Greg Luterbach, on August 18, 2021, the Board of Trustees will meet this week to discuss a divisional school plan for this year. The RVS school plan for the 2021 – 2022 school year will be communicated to schools and families by RVS later this week or early next week.

Staggered Entry

Just like last year, we will be having a staggered start to the school year. We would like to remind families of our staggered entry plan for September 7-9th. Students in grades 1-5 will attend school on the following days:

- Last name beginning with A – G – attend September 7th only

- Last name beginning with H – M – attend September 8th only

- Last name beginning with N – Z – attend September 9th only

Kindergarten students will attend school on the day indicated in the letter sent at the end of the year. If you are a newly registered Kindergarten family and are not aware of your child’s staggered entry day, please contact the office on Tuesday, August 31st.

All students attend on September 10th.
