What is PBIS?
Positive Behavioural Interventions & Supports (PBIS) is a team-based approach to systematically teach expectations of positive conduct throughout our school. It’s based on a model which focuses on explicitly teaching desired behaviours, supporting students as they learn to develop the behaviours, and reinforcing and recognizing students when they exhibit the behaviours.
The team approach is what truly makes this system work, and we count on our partnership with parents as vitally important members of that team to achieve a learning environment that is characterized by good citizenship and care through respect, responsibility and safety.
At RJ Hawkey we focus on one area of the matrix each month, though we encourage and reward behaviours which are reflective of any area of the matrix. Examples of skills that we may be working on include: Asking for Help, Solving Problems, Caring for Myself and Others and many more.
