COVID General Letter

Friday, March 19, 2021

Dear parents, guardians and families,

Today we received information that an individual from R.J. Hawkey Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19. We are working closely with Alberta Health Services (AHS) to ensure the necessary precautions are taken to protect students and staff. For privacy reasons, we will not be sharing more information about the individual.

Our school will remain open for in-class learning. Additional cleaning of the school will be completed before students return on Monday, March 22.

Those students and staff, who our records show would likely have had close contact with the individual who tested positive, have been provided additional information in a separate email about required isolation and will be contacted directly by AHS by email in the days ahead.

Screening for illness is an essential part of Rocky View Schools’ safety strategies to slow the spread of COVID-19. Please do not send your child to school if they are sick. If they answer YES to any of the questions on the Alberta Health Daily Checklist, then please follow the guidance provided on that checklist and/or complete the COVID-19 self-assessment for Albertans and follow the directions provided. It is important that the checklist be completed daily at home. For questions about COVID-19, visit alberta.ca/covid19 or call 811.

Our thoughts are with all individuals impacted by this positive case. We wish anyone impacted a quick recovery and look forward to their return to school when they are well, and it is safe. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Jason Billings
