In reviewing the survey results we received the following themes / suggestions.

What is going well:

1. Families like the weekly communication from the school

2. Teachers have made good connections with students and their classes

3. Students feel safe and cared for at school

4. Appreciate the focus on diversity and the in-depth look at Orange Shirt Day this year

5. The staff at RJ is warm and welcoming

6. Like that the school administration is outside in the mornings

7. Like having in-person events again, Pancake breakfast, 3 Way Conferences, assemblies, concerts, etc.

8. Having Healthy Hunger lunches monthly

What could be worked on:

1. Hard to find or get information on what children need to work on to stay caught up when away from school sick

2. More time for students to be creative in the classrooms

3. For school staff to find creative consequences for students that do not include taking away recess or gym time

4. Send out updates from School Council meetings for those who could not attend

5. Not having students bring home snack/lunch garbage

6. Have students do more outdoor learning with their classes

7. Use gender neutral language in communication

8. More supervision outside at recess

9. More communication from classroom teachers

10. Stricter sick policy for students

If your son/daughter is going to be absent from school, please call Safe Arrival at: 1-833-244-5565 to report an under 5 day absence. Alternatively, you can enter the absence(s) into the Safe Arrival App. (go.schoolmessenger.ca) The app is suitable for both Apple and Android phones.

The school does not have an attendance line so parents need to call the Safe Arrival line.

Have a little bit of free time? Like reading?

We are looking for parents, guardians, grandparents etc. who are able to read with some of our students. No special training or skills are needed. Volunteers just need a valid criminal record check and some time to volunteer.

We recently had some inquiries on the policy about sick students and how to support your child at home when they are feeling unwell.

Students who feel unwell/sick are encouraged to stay home until they are well. Staying home helps prevent germs from spreading in the classroom and school. If your child has vomited, Alberta Health Services recommends that they stay home for 24 hours after the vomiting stops.

We have included links to AHS resources for families and the Health Link symptom checker for families unsure if their child should stay home.

If your child is at home sick, they are always welcome to spend time reading and practicing their math facts. Playing games such as scrabble, boggle, cribbage, math war, etc., are great ways to practice. Students can also use Mathletics and Raz-Kids. If you are unsure of your child's login information for these programs, please email their teacher. If your child is sick for a prolonged time, please reach out to their teacher to see if there are any additional assignments that they can be working on, however, the primary focus on a student being home ill is that they rest and recover.

Chapel this month will continue to focus on prayer and using the ACTS format introduced to students. This week will be lead by Ms. Wiwcharuk and will focus on the T - Thanksgiving part of ACTS prayer.
