My instructional focus for readers: · Phonetic mastery for pre-readers is essential if your child is to become a fluent in reader, a self-assured speaker and an enthusiastic writer. · Repeated reading for emerging readers can improve fluency and can open the door to comprehension. · Reading comprehension for more confident readers targets the higher order skills necessary for future academic success. My instructional focus for writers: · Legibility will be promoted in all written work. · Key skill development using the acronym SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) will be embedded in my instructional model. · Mastering the 5 sentence paragraph, to convey meaning, in a concise way lies at the heart of my instructional model for writing. My instructional focus for mathematicians: Mastering the number system is foundational followed by a deep understanding of the four operations. All other areas of the mathematics program of study will be addressed as gaps in current learning are eradicated.
